Description:

This emblematic picture of the ideology of 'branuqeamento', or 'whitening', of the Brazilian population, was later reproduced on the cover of João Baptista de Lacerda´s -the director of the National Museum- contribution to the 1. International Congress on Race, celebrated in 1911 at Geneva, Switzerland. The speech was entitled 'Sur le métis au Brésil', and carried the subtitle "Le nègre passant au blanc, à la troisième génération, par l´éffet du croisement des races"
